Multiple German Yards
Germany Est. Various
The Type VII U-boat was built across numerous German shipyards during WWII, including Blohm+Voss, Bremer Vulkan, Deutsche Werke, Flender Werke, Germaniawerft, Howaldtswerke, and others. The dispersed production was deliberate — no single yard could be bombed into stopping the program.
Heritage
German submarine construction was a national effort. At peak production in 1943-44, a new U-boat was launched every two days from yards spread across northern Germany. The production rate was staggering but couldn't overcome the attrition rate — by 1943, U-boats were being sunk faster than they could be built.
